Camera Obscura – Sunday Morning
See Edinburgh as you’ve never seen it before! This is a truly unique place. Camera Obscura sits a top the Royal Mile in Old Town Edinburgh, the original home of an Outlook Tower. The original creation of Maria Short in the mid 1800’s, she dreamed of creating an observatory & museum of science and art for the public. She installed a camera obscura on top of the tower, which still exists to this day and is now one of the oldest tourist attractions in Edinburgh.
Explore the wonders of light and illusion in the Magic Gallery. Gaze in wonder at the stunning 3D hologram display in light fantastic. Interact with an array of Edinburgh Vision images from Victorian 3D cityscapes to live viewcams which you can control. If you still have some time on your hands, we would highly recommend doing a free Sandeman’s Walking Tour of Edinburgh. This is a great way to see Old Town from street level and find out about all the intriguing and sometimes ghastly stories that Edinburgh was built on.
In the narrow streets of Edinburgh you were as likely to meet a murderer as a man of genius. Body-snatchers, witch hunters, firebrand priests and philosophers all living on the side of a dead volcano, and all fuelled by ales and whisky which was safer to drink than the water! There is so much to see and do - and your time is valuable.
